Irish theologian fr. Vivian Boland, OP, has been named a Master of Sacred Theology (STM), the highest academic honor conferred by the Dominican Order.
Issued by the Master of the Order, fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, the decree conferring the honor recognizes fr. Vivian’s distinguished service to theology, Dominican formation, and the mission of the Church.
A friar of the Irish Province, fr. Vivian has served as a scholar, teacher, formator, preacher, and leader across Ireland, Scotland, Trinidad and Tobago, England, and Rome. His work has been especially marked by a deep engagement with St. Thomas Aquinas and a lifelong commitment to the theological service of the Church.
“I appreciate that the Order understands the STM not as laurels to sit on but as a call to renewed dedication to the theological service of the Church,” fr. Vivian said.
We in The Priory Institute join in congratulating fr Vivian for receiving this well-deserved honor and are grateful for his wisdom and experience as lecturer in our Hons BA programme in Theology and in the past as external examiner for the Priory Institute.
